Popin Cooking Experiment

Lacheln had an assignment to prepare food & ingredients at home, while incidentally Mommy discovered this popin cooking tool while window shopping at dhoby ghaut.
It’s bento set (Tsukuru obento)
And here’s the instruction : basically mix all the gelatin powder with the correct amount of water. Next shape it according to the mould.
So here we go! Lacheln’s in charge of cutting & mixing the ingredients.
It’s definitely a fun process, albeit failed end product.
Never mind mommy, let’s try again next time. Peace!!

It’s the lovely August and Pei Xuan’s been having full lotsa fun during the whole month!
She visited the newly opened flower conservatories at Marina bay, Gardens by the Bay with mom, grandma, grandpa. It’s accessible from Bayfront MRT station or Bus service 518 (taken from Orchard Road) which stops in front of the Marina Convention Centre (MICE).
Pei Xuan, mom, grandma and grandpa visited the Cloud Forest Conservatory which comprises of a 35-metre tall mountain complete with the indoor waterfall covered in lush vegetation, the Cloud Forest portrays plant life from about 2,000-metres above sea level at the top of the mountain to around 1,000-metres at the bottom of the ravine.
Flowers displayed here at much lesser than the Flower Dome, yet the varieties of plants still presented a mystical feeling of walking in a forest.

It’s her first time getting a make up from the professional make-up artist. And it’s surely fun!

The club med resort is located at Kata beach area in Phuket, a quieter beach compared to the famous Patong beach.
Lacheln loves this place so much as it has a big kid pool for her to swim.
She finally can float on her own…
A visit to Phuket Fantasea is a must, to experience Thai’s local culture and watch the intelligent elephants parading on stage. This is a park built on US$100 million and the cultural show has won accolades by many famous people (even ex Singapore President has visited there).

It’s a sunny and beautiful Tuesday and Lacheln’s waken up early in the morning. Mom has told her the night before that she’s going on a trip today.
At 10.30AM Xuan has started queueing at Terminal 1 departure gate. The queue’s long but smooth and Xuan was enjoying herself with grandma and dad. Look at the picture above J
At 2.30PM, Xuan has arrived safely at Ngurah Rai International Airport The whole family was met by Aunt Chin Lien and a really friendly local driver, which Xuan would keep on calling “Abang.. abang”.
As the airport is in central Bali, one can easily get to any tourist attraction spot as soon as they land in Ngurah Rai. Our first stop in Bali is Pura Uluwatu which is about 30mins away from airport. I think the most notorious monkeys in Bali must be residing here. So, for tourists with loose item (e.g spectacles, hair bands for ladies, etc), please beware. The monkeys lurk behind you and grab items within seconds, exchanging it with food. Only some lucky tourists will get back their valuables in good condition. Xuan’s lollipop was one of the item grabbed by a young monkey.
On the way back from Uluwatu, one should stop by Jimbaran Bay. It’s a desirable place to get local seafood and go for the ‘Everything’s Grilled’ mode like the one we tried at Beach Bali Cafe http://www.beachbalicafe.com/ You would like it !!
At 9pm, it’s time to finally checkin the resort hotel, Pan Pacific Nirwana. The hotel is neatly decorated and nicely situated at Tanah Lot. All rooms will have superb view of Indian Ocean and the famous Tanah Lot temple. Tanah Lot is one of the must visit place for first time visitor.
On the second day, we visited the famous “Babi Guling Ibu Oka” in Ubud. Do not judge the stall from the tiny size, as it’s won numerous international and local awards. The suckling pig’s marvellous with crispy skin (tagged with very reasonable price, it’s not affected by the tourists I guess). One can stop by the ubud traditional market to buy some local products. It’s a walking distance from the warung babi guling. Ubud is a remarkable town in the middle of the island of Bali. For more than a century, it has been the island’s preeminent centre for fine arts, dance and music. While it once was a haven for scruffy backpackers, cosmic seekers, artists and bohemians, Ubud is now a hot spot for literati, glitterati, art collectors and connoisseurs. For backpacker out there, ensure to stop by Ubud or stay one night at this location.
When dawn’s coming, Xuan’s admiring sunset at Kuta beach. Kuta was once the higlight in the news when terrorist bombed Kuta Legian night pub on 2002. A memorial monument has been erected nearby the spot and the pub has not been re-built since.

This is a diary written by mama….. She took us to Hong Kong for holiday… I went with grandpa, grandma, grandaunts…. It was a fabulous, windy, rainy, cold trip….. But I enjoyed it…
Hr pertama kami sampe (naik United airline), jam 10am waktu setempat cuaca msh 12derajat. Hr pertama aja lsg diajak ke victoria peak. Itu loh gunung dimana byk villa2 termahal di hongkong. Konon dulu tempat itu hanya blh dihuni oleh bule, trus org tionghoa pertama yg beli villa di gunung itu ialah kakeknya Stanley ho (ituloh salah satu org terkaya di hongkong). Waktu kami naik gunung, dibawah gunung ada tempat lomba kuda namanya happy valley. Konon byk org hk suka tinggal disekitar sana, krn feng shuinya. Penjelasannya gini. Kan namanya judi, dari tiap 10 pertaruhan, pasti 9 kita kalah taruh, 1 kali menang taruh. Jd uangnya selalu tertimbun di race track-nya aja. Kalo u tinggal sana, seakan2 dikerumunin byk duit loh… trus di blkgnya ada gunung, ada “khao shan” (chinesenya, ada back-ing lah). He he. Bnr juga ya. Trus kita juga lewat bangunan office asuransi (prudential kalo gak salah). Gua gak sempat foto bangunannya, di dpn bangunan itu ada pilar2. Tour guide suruh kita tebak pilar itu btknya kayak apa, rupanya kayak peti mati (yg zaman2 dulu gitu loh). Itu juga feng shui, krn namanya aja jg bisnis asuransi, pas diblkg bangunan itu, gunungnya jg tempat pekuburan tuh. Ck ck, alasannya kalo yg kerja di bangunan itu malam2 hari gak dihantui loh, krn hantunya mau msk building dah liat ada peti mati (gak jd msk building)… ada ada aja yahhh…
Perjalanan naik gunung kan putar2 (kayak ke brastagi gitu), jd ji I mabok dan muntah, alhasil malamnya dia gak selera makan seafood… alias puasa lah dia. Foto mkn seafood ada di album ituloh (yg ada tertulis fish village in chinese tu). Tempatnya di samping laut, jd bs kecium bau busuknya air, kayak bau air parit aja. Anehnya di samping airlah, tempat2 mkn seafood
Hr kedua, krn semalam naik mobil mabok, gua dan mom dan xuan gak ikutan acara pagi hari. Paginya mereka ke temple sembahyang tuh, konon temple plg mujarab kalo mau kesana “thiu chiam”. Alhasil gua dan mom dan xuan naik mrt sendiri, keliling2. Gua Tanya bell boy di hotel, mana yah mrt terdekat, dia jahat sekali lah, maksa2in kita naik taksi (taksi pribadi), ktnya hujan lah, naik mrt bo fang pian apalagi bawa bayi. Terpaksa kita nyerah naik taksi illegalnya, per kepala byr hkd 50 (sgd 10) gitu. Dibawa ke kota tuk cari makan. Tp yah, at least kita dpt ke satu tempat yg byk jual bubur dan makanan local hongkong. Auntie yg jaga toko juga baik banget, manggil2 xuan, tokonya kecil amat, lebarnya msh kalah ama lebar toko selatan indah lagi. Kita makan aja duduk sharing table ama uncle tua, uncle-nya juga baik, dia liat xuan main2 ama pepper bottle, dinasehatin jgn kasi main. Sebenarnya org local hongkong baik loh, tp malah yg kerja di service line, kayak petugas mrt, atau pegawai di hotel yg perangainya buruk amat. Gua msh kira service di Singapore gak bagus, di hongkong yg kerja service line, mkn parah lagi. Gua beli kartu mrt dan mau refund, dimarahin petugas. Gua dan mom gak bs geser kereta bayi masuk, mau minta bantuan, dimarahin petugas. Sampe kesalnya gua blg, so this is how your service is like. GOOD JOBBB!!!!!!
Msh ttg mslh service line, disini restaurant/toko2 makan sgt gak fleksibel. Kalo mau nyari makanan vegetarian yg gak ada di menu, kita minta bs gak jgn taruh garlic, ini, itu, ganti jadi bihun, dsb..dsb…
Jawabannya selalu “no”, krn mrk tak tahu mau charge harga brp ama lu…. welehhh….. dan disini susah loh cari kway teow, bihun, yg ada Cuma mie lidi (satu macam aja, yg kt buei I keras amat dimsk mereka) dan mie pangsitnya jg satu macam aja, gak ada mie tiong sim, dsb, dsb… talking bout surga makanan, kayaknya medan msh lbh surga daripada sana deh… (jd lapar)
Hari ketiga, hari bebas belanja. Rencana gua sih mau ke macau, naik ferry, tp semua org dah takut amat cuaca dinginnya tambah hujan rintik2 plus angin yg menusuk kulit…. jd batal deh…. kita naik mrt lagi ke pulau hongkong ( di peta mrt ada 3pulau besar sih : pulau hongkong,Kowloon dan new territory). New territory dulunya semua laut, jd direklamasi jd tanah (itu tempat hotel kita sih, namanya L hotel di tsuen wan, kalo peta mrt sih perhentian terakhir deh http://www.lhotelhk.com/eng/) Hotel ini ada 2 bangunan (nina tower dan teddy tower), pemiliknya nina wang (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nina_Wang) yg suaminya teddy wang, diculik sampe hr ini gak ketahuan dimana mayatnya. Nina wang juga baru2 meninggal, dan hartanya diributin krn kekasihnya (alias feng shui master dia yg dulu) mau telan seluruh harta itu. Kayaknya cerita ini sensational amat di hk, ampe tour guide kita blg itu feng shui masternya gak bakalan dpt duitnya lah, org hk gak pro dia.
Di hotel itu, nina tower = 41 lt dan teddy tower and 80lt gitu, trus ada sky cross di lt 41 yg hubungin dua tower itu. Gua ama mom naik ke sky cross liat, di lantainya taruh glass panel, jd ngeri deh melihat dr ketinggian itu ke bawah… maklummm, takut ketinggian….
Hr ketiga ini kita naik mrt ke causeway bay, didlm shopping kita terpisah ama father tuh. Kita cr2 gak ketemu, tp gua blg ke mom, dia bs plg sendiri punya lah…… oh ya hari ini, kita semua nekad2 ekspedisi nyari mrt di dekat hotel sendiri…. ternyata lumayan lah, jalan kaki 15-20menit. Ampe lewat satu rumah makan vegetarian, buei I mereka girang amat, dpt nyari makanan vegetarian.
Satu hal yg gua aneh dgn mrt di hk, tanda2 station mrk sgt gak jelas. Lu jalan2, trus tiba2 ada satu pintu yg ada tangga ke bwah (itulah pintu msk mrt)… weleh…. foreigner gimana tahu? Kalo di sini, semua mrt station amat ketara dan jelas amat, disana kayak nyari tempat terlarang aja, ampe disembuyikan gitu. Ternyata bnr tuh, itu father pulang sendiri naik mrt, sepanjang jln ketemu org indo ngobrol2 lagi. Pulangnya dia bragging, alah mrt itu mudah aja lahhhh, di Singapore gua juga dah bs naik sendiri…. ck ck……..
Hari keempat kita dihijrahkan ke Disneyland, hr ini cuaca plg dingin, Disney kan di lantau island, tour guide blg cuaca disini 6-10derajat. Trus island ini gak ada gunung yg menghalangi, asli lapangan dgn hujan dan cuaca dingin menusukkkkkk !!!
Ampe ke Disney, father lsg sembunyi di satu toko, gak mau keluar2 lagi. Dia Cuma mau diajak makan, trus gak mau main arena2 permainan disana. Tinggal gua dan mom dan xuan nyari2 tempat main. (untung hujannya gak seharian, gak ampe setengah jam lagi). Tp semasa hujan, gua ngantri bokkk.. ngantri foto dgn mascot mickey dan Minnie. Yg lain berondok di dlm toko. Trus sewaktu gua antri yg ada di dpn gua spsg kekasih (gua lsg tahu org Singapore). Soalnya ceweknya pake short pant dan shirt, cowoknya pake celana ponggol (itu pemandangan di jalan2 orchard). Kasihan gua liat mereka antri ampe berdiri gemetaran. Kan gila TUHH, cuaca 6derjat, u pake celana pendek, tanpa jaket. Sdgkan kami aja pake baju berlapis2 tambah jas hujannnn…. pelit amat, jas hujan aja gak mau beli (hkd 45=sgd 9). Plg sakit kena H1n1 gmn? Ya kan? Gila….
Tahu gak cuaca sedingin ini, gua ditugasin beli dinner (bukan beli sih, kita diks voucher lunch and dinner, jd gua tinggal claim voucher aja) Soalnya auntie2 semua dah kedinginan, jam 5blk hotel, jam 6 suruh gua blk lagi ke dlm theme park (packing balik makanannya). Ampe acara fireworks jam 7.30pm jg gak berani liat lagi, soalnya di hotel lbh nyaman dan panas… he he…
Tp setidaknya di Disneyland ini, gua bs ketemu org yg kerja disana yg bs good service, bs ngomong English (kalo di hotel, u ngomong English, dia balas mandarin dan maksa2 u ngomong mandarin).
Hr terakhir yg paling gak seru, singgah ke shopping yg super mahal (mentang2 naik train dekat ke Disney). Gak ada brg yg bs dibeli… food court disana “food republic”, itu food court dr Singapore tuh… ck ck.. misi gua ke hongkong makan local food yg murah meriah gak gitu tercapai. Malah disini mkn Singapore food lagi? Ck ck….
My First Christmas (and report card from mommy)
today is 25th dec 2008
it’s lacheln’s first christmas….. (she’s also sleeping with christmas song cajoling by neighbourhood street children)
this is also lacheln’s 6th month birthday
happy birthday my dear princess..
congratulations on all of your achievements.
allow mommy to name those achievements :
first, you can flip all over on grandma’s king size bed. do you know that your little 60cm plus size can conquer about two-third
of the bed and in the end grandma’s sleeping on the most corner side only?
(grinning…). lacheln flips like nobody’s business, wherever, whenever, she’s a little energizer bunny which is charged 24 x 7.
second, you can eat porridge now. Wow….. the first person who weaned you is aunt youni (yi ma).
and lacheln is a baby with big appetite…. mummy’s so proud of you darling. but still
mummy feels a bit hurt (not becoz i’m not the person who weaned you at that time), the
reason is mummy will start giving away breast-pumping for you. i could never imagine a day
without the usual 4 times breast-pumping (each took around 25minutes) and produced about min 180ml of milk for you.
third, you learn how to use “kipas”. my baby girl is so smart. mommy likes to fan you inside grandpa’s old car (yup
i know, there’s no aircon inside) and lacheln just know how to fan by watching mommy doing it.
now i know why studies have been saying that child’s mind is like a sponge. the learning ability is just so amazing.
fourth, you’ve taken your first airplane flight now baby… so lucky of you. mommy took her
first airplane when she’s 21yrs old. though it’s just 1hr flight, it proved to be no hassle for you darling.
other baby on the same plane cried throughout the journey, but u just seem to be enjoying the journey.
taking your nap, waking minutes before the landing. do you know that you’ve traveled miles from your home to grandma’s place?
fifth, grandma told me that you’ve been a good girl. taking green vegetable dutifully.
slurping fruit juices till the last drops. and hey, you like oranges (just like mommy, oh you’re mommy’s little precious).
fruits and vegs are good for you. just enjoy your food and be thankful to god for providing you the food.
sixth, you’re ready on the wheel baby. you jump and play on your baby’s chair, be grateful also
you have the chance to ride grandma’s new wheel (the new car bought especially to transport you everywhere)
you’re the only one who has that priviliges in the family now (don’t miss the chance ok?)
seventh, you’ve visited your great grandma, grand aunt, cousin aunt & uncles.
and how you behaved like a small, sweet, adoring baby.
good job darling, now everyone can’t help falling in love with you.
isn’t that lovely?
eighth……. let’s add it in your next review later ok?
for meanwhile, just enjoy your stay with grandma.
you’re surrounded with abundance of love. thank god for that.
remember to behave yourself and poo-poo in the pot ok? (no more pampers wasting…)

Dear Mommy,
Today is a very special day, cos this morning I’ve decided to “surprise” mommy and “come out to meet daddy”.
I know today mommy is still working… as usual she will take train to Clementi station before departing by bus to the office.
But somehow I would like to tell mommy ” don’t go to work.. I’m coming Mommy. Put ur work aside. ” Hmm.. how am I going to tell mommy?
Alright, I’ll give her a “sign”. At 7.50AM, when mommy just comes out from train, she’ll feel something and understand my “sign”. Gosh, true enough, mommy starts bleeding and she cries. Mommy, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to hurt you. I just want to tell you that today is my “birth day”.
At 8.45AM, mommy arrives at KK hospital in an ambulance. At that time, she’s calmer, maybe it’s because daddy’s around to give her support.
My doctor comes after 9AM, a machine is connected to mom’s tummy and hey….. they can hear my heart beating now!!!
After all the necessary checking, mommy is wheeled to the operation room. Yes, the moment is coming. I’m ready now, doctor Tan.
At 9.58AM, senior consultant Dr. Tan Kim Teng grabs me out and beats my buttock. Ouch, it hurts, u know. Then I just cry and cry and cry… Owa… Owa… Owa….
Nurses are around me, take measurement, weighing, wrapping, etc…
And then they bring me to mommy. Ahh… I finally see my mommy. I open my tiny eyes and see mommy crying…
Why are you crying mommy? You should rejoice….
Oh wait, I know, it’s a tear of joy.
I love you mommy. I’m Lacheln, and I’m born at KK Hospital today.
Hello world, I’ll learn to live and appreciate lifes around me.
I’m too blessed to be born.
